- The Real McCoy Comments:
One day an
old business partner of mine rang me to invite me to his daughter's wedding.
Naturally, I was delighted to be invited and I asked my old business partner,
the father of the bride-to-be, to tell me about the lucky man that his
daughter was marrying. 'You're going to like him', he said, 'he'll a lovely
person who smiles a lot.'
'That sounds
good', I responded, 'but what else does he do, what will I talk to him
about when we meet?'
'Well that's
a bit of a problem', my friend replied, 'because he doesn't speak very
much English. And furthermore, I understand that his parents don't speak
any English at all.'
uhuh! This
was a bit of a problem. But here's a little speech that I wrote for my
friend which was received with great smiles and loud laughter by everyone.
And my secret of success is that before the wedding party began we discretely
circulated a carefully translated version of the bride father's speech
to all the groom's family and foreign-speaking friends. It's worked great!
