this church!' There was a shocked silence! And John repeated ... 'I'm sorry,
Father! But I don't recognise this church!'
This little
story about the groom putting his foot in it, as it were, always gets a
great reaction. And then the best man goes on to explain that he was so
enthralled by the beauty of the bride and the serenity of the service that
- wait for it! - he fell into a little trance up there on the altar. And
before he knew what was happening the groom was jumping up and down making
a 'holy show' of himself.
It's a nice
speech. I've gleefully used this story myself at a wedding and it was great
fun looking at everybody's faces as they wondered... 'should they have
let this best man out?'.
